Philosophy of Art Education

It is my personal philosophy to instill a lifetime love of learning, as well as provide students with a strong foundational experience in the arts through their primary and secondary educational years. I will engage students in the act of creative expression through various mediums, art movements, styles and interpretations of art through artists of the past as well as emerging artists of the present day. Under my instruction students will actively engage in divergent thinking, creative problem solving, discover and implement various skills within the fine arts, and reflect upon historical content.

Within my classroom setting I will actively engage each individual student within the art room and address unique learning styles. As an art educator I understand that teaching art is not an isolated subject within a vacuum. The arts incorporate and make use of skills in all subject matter: mathematics, geography, reading, writing and language arts, history and science. It is my intention to work together in the school community to integrate across the curriculum within the art room.

As an art educator it is my responsibility to provide a fulfilling experience in order to educate the whole child. This form of education goes beyond the four walls of a classroom setting and will take students out into their community or on field trips to experience art museums, theatrical performances, art gardens and other outdoor environments to aid in creative discovery and artistic development for all students. As an art educator I will instill a lifetime love of learning in all students, because I passionately believe in making a difference through teaching art.
